As we arrived in Anacortes, the steam from the Anacortes refineries appeared to be on fire from the light of the golden sunset.
Life occasionally interferes with what we want to do. This is one of those times. It’s cruising season, and we’d rather be out on the boat, on our way north to cruise the Inside Passage and spend more time exploring Alaska. But a long cruise isn’t in the cards for us this summer.

We plan to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary this month at Dent Island Lodge. On a previous visit to Dent Island Lodge, Phoenix and one other boat are tied up at the dock, along with one of the resort’s fishing boats (on the far left). This view faces south, with Big Bay in the distance.
After spending the past several summers on our boat, we have neglected our house and yard. So, this year we won’t be taking the long all-summer cruise we’d like to be taking. Rather, we’ll be splitting our time between a bit of boating and continuing our work on house/yard maintenance and projects.
But now it’s time for a short cruise! We are celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary this month and have decided we want to have a special boating destination to mark the occasion. We picked Dent Island Lodge, B. C.
Dent Island Lodge describes their facility as “a superb British Columbia salmon fishing lodge and wilderness vacation resort, and a preferred BC boating destination with marina and amenities including exercise gym, hot tub, sauna, games room and lounge.” They also offer jet boat tours, fishing charters with guides, and three “comfortably appointed” cabins available for guests.

We walked around the grounds at Dent Island Lodge on a previous visit, and snapped this photo of the cabins available to guests. Pretty nice “cabins!”
We’ve stopped at Dent Island several times in the past, and have enjoyed the marina, the lodge, the grounds, and the excellent 5-course dinners prepared by their gourmet chefs. It’s always special, and we think it’s a great place to celebrate our anniversary.
We arrived in Anacortes a couple of days ago and are in the process of provisioning and getting the boat ready. We have about 3 weeks for this little cruise and are looking forward to toasting our anniversary once we get to Dent Island.

Dent Island has a complete fitness center, located in a separate building. Great views of the channel to the north from the workout machines make working out a much better experience.
Yea! We’re back on the boat and getting ready to cruise!
