This week Cruising With Phoenix reached 20,000 views! Thanks to those of you who are following our blog and to all the others who end up here looking for information about boating or cruising in the Pacific Northwest!
We never dreamed there would be this many people looking at the blog we started a few years ago! But we enjoy sharing our boating adventures with friends who keep track of us while we’re out cruising and with everyone else who is interested in the cruising lifestyle. Boating is about dreaming and living your dreams, and sharing adventures and experiences with other boaters. Along those lines, I found a few photos from earlier cruises that bring back fond memories for us.
First, a couple of older photos from quiet places we’ve visited along the Inside Passage in British Columbia.
Waddington Bay on Bonwick Island in the Broughton Archipelago has been one of our favorite anchorages over the years. We first anchored here in 2001 with our sailboat Carina, and have been back several times with Phoenix. It’s a great place for kayaking and we’ve always had good luck catching crabs and prawns in this area. This photo is from 2005 when the fog came in and made a quiet anchorage even quieter.
Goat Island near Blackfish Sound is another quiet anchorage that we have enjoyed. When we anchored here in 2009, it was extremely calm with overcast skies. The anchorage has a rocky bottom and is slightly exposed, so we wouldn’t recommend it unless the weather was settled. Crabbing is reported to be good here.
Our fond boating memories also include our 2003 cruise to Southeast Alaska. A couple of the highlights of the trip were visiting Petersburg for provisions and cruising through the icebergs in Tracy Arm.
Petersburg, Alaska, was one of our favorite stops. Since the cruise ships didn’t stop there, most of the people we saw were either fellow boaters, or locals. The mountains in the background are the Alaska Boundary Range. We anchored near them in Thomas Bay where we saw the Baird Glacier.
One of the highlights of our Alaska trip was our turnaround stop in Tracy Arm. It took us most of the day to cruise the 22 miles (44 miles round trip) from our anchorage at the base of Tracy Arm to the head where we were able to cruise close to the South Sawyer Glacier, the southern-most tidewater glacier. Very impressive!
