Window Fixed!

While we were waiting for the window on our boat to be fixed, we stopped at Larrabee State Park one day on our way back from shopping in Bellingham. Larrabee was established in 1915, and is the first state park established in Washington. It has good hiking trails and a great beach for swimming or just walking along the beach. There are wonderful views of Northern Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. It was hot the day we stopped there, and the water looked like the perfect day for boating!

We always enjoy hanging out around the boat. Even though we hadn’t planned to come to Anacortes Marina the first part of July, it’s been fun to be at the marina while we waited to get new glass made for our broken window. The weather has been great, and we enjoyed making progress on some of our maintenance projects.

Teak Cleaning, New Storeroom

It’s so nice to get the exterior teak cleaned! This photo shows the swim step on our stern when it was half done. What a difference!

What to do while we wait for the new window glass? Clean up the boat! Jim used plastic sheeting to cover up the broken window so that we could safely spray water on the outside of the boat. He gave Phoenix a much-needed washing, and I had a chance to tackle the exterior teak.

Updates: Broken Window, Boat Fire, Northern Marine Yacht

Fidalgo Bay Sailing

While we’ve been waiting for the new glass for our window to arrive, we’ve enjoyed some nice weather and interesting activities around the marina. These sailboats were participating in a recent Anacortes Yacht Club buoy race on Fidalgo Bay, with Mt. Baker in the distance. They had a perfect evening for a race…sunny, warm, and a nice breeze.

Update: Broken Window

We had hoped that our broken window would have been fixed by now. The glass was supposed to be cut, tempered, and shipped by last Thursday. But projects on boats always seem to have “issues,” and this was no exception.

Boat Fire At Anacortes Marina

Smoke Anacortes Boat Fire

When we arrived at our dock, we saw a large volume of smoke rising above the burning boat as the firefighters pumped water into the boat.

We caught our breaths as we returned to Anacortes Marina yesterday afternoon and saw a column of dark smoke rising above the Anacortes waterfront. As we got closer, we realized the smoke was coming from our marina or somewhere very close to it! When we arrived at the parking lot, we found many emergency vehicles filling the area, most with lights flashing. We saw that the smoke was coming from A Dock, which was a bit of a relief, because our boat is on B Dock.

Anacortes Farmers Market

anacortes-market-flowersWe headed down to the Anacortes Farmers Market yesterday morning. It continues to get bigger every year, and has so much to offer. It was overcast yesterday so it wasn’t too hot, and the rain had stopped overnight. The Market is a short walk from Anacortes Marina along the waterfront. It’s a great way to start the day.

Unplanned Trip To Anacortes

Sunrise at Anacortes Marina

We’ve had some gorgeous sunrises since we’ve been here at Anacortes Marina. This was one of the best.

We’re back at Anacortes Marina aboard Phoenix, but unfortunately not for cruising. Last week we received a text message with an attached photo from the woman who washes our boat when we’re gone. She said, “Look what I found when I came to wash your boat…hope no water got in…call me.” And the attached photo showed one of our cabin windows with shattered glass and a hole in the center!
