End of Season Wrap-up

Cap Sante Marina September

Cap Sante Boat Haven glows on a sunny, calm late September day.

After our September cruising, we stayed on board Phoenix in Anacortes Marina to finish the annual exterior maintenance of waxing and polishing, and get the boat ready to sit over the winter. This year we were lucky to have the long stretch of dry weather continue through the rest of September and into October. Quite unusual for this time of year, and we were grateful that we didn’t have to dodge wet weather for our outside projects!

Wi-Fi Woes

20121003-154458.jpg
Our Wi-Fi Internet service provider in Anacortes is Beacon Wi-Fi, formerly BroadbandXpress (BBX). Due to problems connecting to their service, we haven’t been able to get a dependable Internet connection for more than two weeks. We haven’t been able to even get a connection for the past week! We’ve been working for days to try to resolve the problem…it seems to be a problem with BBX’s equipment…but it has been so time consuming to try to find a solution that we may have to give up for now.

Another Inspiring Sunrise

sunrise at anacortes marina

On a recent morning we were treated to another inspiring sunrise in Anacortes. This view is from our boat and captures the sun as it rises above the marina breakwater and begins to light the boats in the marina.

We are rapidly approaching the autumnal equinox (September 22nd at 7:49 AM PDT), and each day the sun is rising further and further to the south. Looking to the east from our boat on a recent morning, we saw this view of the sun rising as it came up behind the breakwater at Anacortes Marina. What a great way to start the day!

Replace Webasto Thermostat

original webasto thermostat

Our original Webasto thermostat failed in August, and couldn’t be fixed, so we had to order a new thermostat. This is the original one.

Our first maintenance job when we got back to the boat was to replace the thermostat for our Webasto heater. The thermostat failed in August when we left, and we determined it was old and couldn’t be repaired, so a replacement was needed. We ordered a new thermostat from Sure Marine, where we got the original unit, and we brought the new one with us when we came back to the boat in September.

Back to the boat

smith rock

We’re heading back to our boat! Shortly after we left Bend, we passed Smith Rock State Park on our way north on Highway 97.

After almost four weeks in Central Oregon, we finished the yard work at our house and returned to our boat in Anacortes Marina for some fall cruising. We had a good weather day for the 450-mile drive. Road construction and maintenance projects delayed us from time to time, but otherwise we had no complications.

A laptop is a warm place

Rosie on laptop

I left my laptop open the other day, and found Rosie curled up on the keyboard when I came back.

Rosie is a small kitty. She weighs around 7 pounds and has a very thin body. Maybe that’s why she’s always seeking out warm places to curl up. I don’t think of my laptop as a warm place, however, if I’m away and leave the laptop open, frequently I will find her curled up on the keyboard when I come back. I guess the laptop generates just enough heat to attract her.
